Mercutio mask (Romeo and Juliet)
REFLECTION
Process: First I had to make a mask that had 5 symbols that helped to represent Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet. The mask above is a drawing of the actual mask. It looks pretty much identical to the actual mask made. (This drawing was made because I threw away the mask I made.) Then, in an essay with quotes from the play, I had to show how the mask related to Mercutio. The mask structure was handmade using aluminum foil and paper tape. These I used colors to symbolize his role in the story.
Product: I really like my mask after I made it since I hand made the actual mask structure itself. The symbols I chose to put on the mask really satisfied me especially with the red blood drops and the "R" on his eyes. These symbols showed that he was killed by a Capulet and a close friend of Romeo. I accomplished this task by going deep into the book and making my mask just so that it would be customized for Mercutio himself.
Growth: It pulled the inner artist out of me as I structured and colored the mask. Also, I had to use quotes from the book and I learned to use in-text citations of a play. I was able to better understand Mercutio's role in the story and how he must have felt through all the tragedy.
Improvement: I could have made the mask a bit better. Making the mask was another last minute thing and if i had spent a little more time, it may have looked more professional. Also with the writing, I could have used better vocabulary.
